NASA has awarded a significant contract to multiple commercial Earth Observation data providers, including Kuva Space for hyperspectral data and ICEYE for radar, as part of its Commercial Satellite Data Acquisition Program On-Ramp 2.
Is the era of hyperspectral as a niche tool ending? We think so! NASA - National Aeronautics and Space Administration’s Earth Science Division Commercial Satellite Data Acquisition Program selected Kuva Space US as one of the eight new commercial EO data providers under its $476M contract. Beyond the immediate milestone, the decision signals where hyperspectral sits on the maturity curve, moving beyond the limited cadence and high cost that long kept it out of routine use and into the realm of operational, procurable infrastructure. We’re honored to support NASA’s Earth science research and application objectives and to be part of the broader shift toward making hyperspectral data as foundational as multispectral has become.
